Makes 7 cups


  • 2 tbs. or oil

  • 1 tsp. of basil

  • 1/4 tsp. of black pepper

  • 1 tsp. of cumin powder

  • 2 tsp. of salt

  • 1/2 tsp. of ginger powder

  • 6 cups of water

  • 3 cups of split peas (soaked in cold water overnight)

  • 1/2 cup of carrots

  • 1/2 cup of celery

  • 1/2 cup of green peppers

  • 1/2 cup of potatoes

  • 1 tbs. of lemon juice



  • Over low heat, sauté spices in oil for a few minutes. Add in the chopped vegetables and stir well to coat them. Now add the water, split peas and lemon juice. Bering to a boil and them simmer for one hour or longer, if you want a creamy consistency.
